Tomorrow Is Today, 2023
Driftwood, concrete blocks
approx. 200 x 20 x 60 cm
Tomorrow is Today is an art installation that centers around an idea, where now was once yesterday and tomorrow is today. The artist draws inspiration from the incredible journey of driftwood, which travels thousands of kilometers from Siberia to the shores of Iceland, guided by the Arctic Ocean’s currents.
The creative process begins with the artist carefully selecting pieces of driftwood. Through charring and fusion with concrete blocks, she shapes them into contemporary objects while preserving their original essence. Through this transformation, the artist invites viewers to see these objects from a fresh perspective.
This art installation goes beyond a mere transformation; it creates a dialogue with the artist’s current surroundings, blending elements of the country’s history, culture, and emotional landscape. All of this takes place within the intimate setting of a domestic space. The artwork serves as a powerful bridge between the past and present, the natural and the man-made, and explores the profound ability of art to transcend boundaries and cultivate a deeper connection with the world around us.
